JANA TUSCHMAN
A continuous process of exploration is how Jana Tuschman describes her work in collage: searching, discovering, uncovering . . . making herself receptive to materials (both found and created) that lead into unknown, continually changing territory and meaning. Particularly drawn to the variable forms, sensuous lines and subtle colors of nature, Jana credits her childhood delight in searching for "just the right" stones found on the rock beaches on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State as very early visual inspiration. An early start as a musician also influenced an innate sensitivity to rhythm, repetition, and variation on a theme, which would eventually be translated into the visual realm. Jana's work is all about reigniting that childhood joy of discovering visual energy, balance and harmony, in the materials that speak to her.
