JULIA NELSON-GAL
I am a project-based artist, working with photography, collage, printmaking and installation in the San Francisco Bay Area. I work out of PROJECT275, a shared studio complex in Redwood City, California. During the past year I have worked as a Build Crew Member on three of David Best's Temples in Northern Ireland, San Francsico and at Burning Man, as well as on Michael Garlington's Totem of Confessions at Burning Man in 2015. In 2015 my artist's book Life Deck is being shown at the Sheffield International Artist's Book Prize Exhibition in England. In 2014 my work was shown at the Alexandria Library in Egypt, the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts, the Bedford Center for the Arts, Walnut Creek, and Gray Loft Gallery, Oakland. My work is in private and public collections including the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Collection, the Sheffield Book Collection, England, and the Alexandria Museum, Egypt. I received my Masters Degree, Museum Practice Certificate and Bachelors Degree at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the History of Art. For fifteen years I worked in museums, non-profits and auction houses as a photography specialist. This part of my career continues to influence both my process and the works that I make.
